What if you're wrong?

I heard this song on the radio this morning:

But what if you're wrong?
What if there's more?
What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?
What if you jump
And just close your eyes?
What if the arms that catch you, catch you by surprise?
What if He's more than enough?

What if it's love?

~What If, Nichole Nordeman

I’ve been a Christian for 33 years, but I rarely just close my eyes and jump into God’s provision. I’ve watched many of my friends take risks to trust God, and I’m always amazed. One of these days Alice, one of these days.

So, I ask myself, what have I got to lose by taking that jump? What is waiting for me at the end of the rabbit hole? Sometimes, in my experience jumping into that mysterious nothing has been profoundly good and positive. Other times...not so good. Sometimes it is not only worth the risk, but exceeds our expectations beyond our wildest imaginings. Other times...well, it teaches us to get used to disappointment. But, if we train our ears to hear God, the hope is that eventually we'll only jump when we know who it is we're hearing.

I just wish the cotton in my ears would come out!

I dunno, pal. Leading a music mission to England sounds like "jumping off" to me. Pastoring a church with your wife as your staff mate for an entire year (unpaid) sounds like jumping off to me. Seminary sounds like jumping off to me. Going from software engineer to therapist sounds like jumping off to me.

Maybe you're bein' a little hard on yourself?
